The Weathervane Project puts a really great spin on the concept of band video sessions. Their Shaking Through series documents the evolution of a song by artists where rather than simply highlighting the performance, you are exposed to the recording process as well; deconstructed via interview with the artist along with a peek into the studio as a song comes together.
A collaboration between Philly’s WXPN radio and Weathervane Music, Shaking Through selects 10 artists a year, giving them each 2 days in the studio to record the work. The result is a community funded project that supports working independent artists in developing their craft and furthering their careers.
Now in their 3rd season, the series has featured a few AON Bite Sized alumni such as Sharon Van Etten, Twin Sister, and Reading Rainbow, in addition to episodes with many other excellent artists. The most recent installment in the series features Cat Martino, who previously appeared on our site alongside Sharon Van Etten during our own session recording.
Cat gets a hand from Sufjan Stevens and Chris Powell from Man Man on her recording of “I Promise,” which you can check out in the above clip.
