Hip hop activists The Cornel West Theory have been putting the finishing touches on their latest album, The Shape of Hip Hop to Come, due out July 19th.

On this follow up to last year’s debut, the band takes a slightly different path. The new album finds roots in traditional jazz elements that reference Ornette Coleman’s seminal work The Shape of Jazz To Come.

The band plans to release a series of singles from the album in advance of the release date, available to stream off of their facebook page. Additionally, they are going to be kicking off a summer tour schedule this week.

There will be a number of D.C. shows, but on July 1-3, the band has plans to film their sets at BloomBars for an upcoming DVD release. Full schedule after the jump.
