With a new album out earlier this year and having just wound down a pretty extensive touring schedule, Chaz Bundick and his crew have been putting in a lot of hours. Underneath the Pine, the second full-length from Toro Y Moi, and was again written and recorded by Chaz. But this time around, his music shows significant growth as the bedroom compositions explore more organic territory and play around with new styles and genres.
We spent a little time with the band backstage before their Rock and Roll Hotel set last month and spoke to Chaz about the album, the tour and the writing process. He gave us a little insight into the evolution of the band’s sound, including some of his favorite pedals and synths, and the role Dan Snaith and Caribou played in inspiring the current Toro Y Moi stage setup.
