One of Shaw’s best-kept secrets is a fun little space behind Blagden Alley known simply as “Fight Club,” because apparently, you’re not supposed to talk about it. Oops.
For the uninitiated, the warehouse-looking space boasts a skate park, stage, and plenty of room to ensure the thriving D.C. DIY community has a spot to throw some of the fringiest shows this city has to offer.
This weekend the space plays host to Covers Coffeehouse III, where the premise is pretty simple; as event coordinator Audrey Gertz puts it: “A coffeehouse setup with bands & solo acts. Play cover songs.”
Or maybe you don’t really want to perform, and just have the urge to dance. Those folks won’t be left in the dark either, as DJs Jackie O, Phillip Goyette, thirtyseven, David Bloom, Yoshinori Sasao, and Sam Stoia will also be present.
Things are expected to kick-off around 7 p.m., and skaters are reminded to do so at their own risk. Getting in will cost $5, and as long as you’re 18 you’ll be good to go.
People are encouraged to bring edible goodies, although there may or may not be grilling at the venue, and you must provide your own libations.
Fight Club is located at 1248 Blagden Alley NW.
